Children and adults with autism have differences with social communication\/interaction and exhibit restrictive and\/or repetitive patterns of behavior. There is a wide range of ability among people with autism. Some people with autism need significant levels of support to ensure their health and well-being while others do not. There is no known cause of autism and no singular form of assistance for autism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/crossbearersmm.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/images-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7619\" width=\"195\" height=\"195\" srcset=\"https:\/\/crossbearersmm.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/images-1.jpg 225w, https:\/\/crossbearersmm.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/images-1-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/crossbearersmm.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/images-1-45x45.jpg 45w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 195px) 100vw, 195px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:22px\" class=\"has-text-color has-black-color\">Autism, or autism spectrum disorder (ASD), refers to a broad range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication. According to the Centers for Disease Control,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.autismspeaks.org\/autism-statistics\"><em><strong>autism affects an estimated 1 in 44&nbsp;children<\/strong><\/em><\/a>&nbsp;in the United States today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:22px\">There is not one type of autism but many subtypes and most are influenced by a combination of genetic and environmental factors. And because autism is a spectrum disorder, each person with autism has a distinct set of strengths and challenges. The ways in which people with autism learn, think and problem-solve can range from highly skilled to severely challenged. Some people with ASD may require significant support in their daily lives, while others may need less support and, in some cases, live entirely independently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/crossbearersmm.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/images-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7620\" width=\"141\" height=\"101\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:22px\">There are several factors which may influence the development of autism, and it is often accompanied by sensory sensitivities and medical issues such as gastrointestinal (GI) disorders, seizures or sleep disorders, as well as mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression and attention issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:22px\" class=\"has-text-color has-black-color\"> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autismspeaks.org\/learn-signs-autism\"><strong><em>Signs of autis<\/em>m<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;usually appear by age 2 or 3. Some associated development delays can appear even earlier, and often, it can be diagnosed as early as 18 months.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/crossbearersmm.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/images.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7623\" width=\"491\" height=\"199\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"100\" height=\"142\" src=\"https:\/\/crossbearersmm.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/children5.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5546\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:24px\">The <strong>Cross Bearers Motorcycle Ministry, Inc.<\/strong> has supported this organization for over (6) years and continue to support <strong>Autism Society Central Virginia (ASCV)<\/strong>  because for over 40 years, the <strong>Autism Society of Central Virginia (ASCV) <\/strong>has served as one of the region\u2019s premier sources of education, advocacy, services, and support for individuals with autism, their families and friends, and professionals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/crossbearersmm.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/animated-walking-image-0021.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6732\" width=\"114\" height=\"139\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:24px\"> The <strong>ASCV<\/strong> was founded by a group of parents who came together for support and to share information about how to best help their children with autism with their mission being to support, empower, and build connections for the local autism community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:24px\"> The <strong>ASCV<\/strong> provides direct services and supports in the following counties and cities in Central Virginia: counties of <strong>Chesterfield, Hanover, Henrico;<\/strong> and the city of <strong>Richmond<\/strong>.
